Sarah began her career as a teacher of Languages, and now consults in Victoria and interstate in a variety of areas relating to learning and teaching. Previously Head of Languages at a econdary boys’ school, Sarah completed a Masters in Education focusing on engaging boys in languages and teacher role in motivation. Sarah runs seminars in a range of areas, including Differentiation of the Curriculum, Behaviour Management, Boys Education, EAL in the Mainstream Classroom, Backwards Design Curriculum Planning, Assessment, and Inquiry Teaching and Learning. Sarah facilitates short and long-term projects, tailoring objectives, workshops and ongoing support to the needs of the teachers with whom she works. Sarah is passionate about supporting teachers to constantly reflect on, and enhance their approaches to teaching and learning.

In 2014 and 2015, Sarah was based in Jakarta, Indonesia, where her work (in an international school setting) focused on inquiry approaches to primary teaching, assessment practices across primary and secondary schools and EAL in the mainstream classroom. During that time, Sarah continued to consult in Australia. Since her return to Melbourne, Sarah’s work has focused on Assessment in Schools, the role of Feedback in the Assessment Process, and Differentiation (in particular, highly able and gifted learners, as well as learners with special needs).

Sarah has been involved in the implementation of VEt Applied Language programs in secondary schools since 2005. This included developing curriculum materials, supporting teachers in schools, and a large focus on assessment approaches in VET and how they differ from traditional classroom settings. Sarah's work continued to extend into other areas of VET, and more recently included supporting the implementation of VET Applied Indigenous Langauges in the Northern Territory, including remote communities, since 2017. Ripponlea Institute is the first, and only, RTO in Australia to deliver the Certificate II in Applied Language (10297NAT) in the Aboriginal Languages of Arrernte, Yolngu Matha, MurrinhPatha and Alyawarr.

Sarah became Principal of Ripponlea Institute in May 2018, and thoroughly enjoys this diverse role, working with a team of highly professional consultants for Small Business, Fashion, Languages and Music.

 

 

 

Andrew Ferguson

Andrew Ferguson is an experienced teacher of German, English and Drama, having taught in a wide range of Victorian schools for over 25 years. He has been Head of Languages at three schools and his most recent position of responsibility in a school was that of Coordinator of Professional Development at Trinity Grammar School, Kew. Currently he is engaged as a sessional lecturer at Melbourne University, lecturing in the methodology of teaching Languages (other than English) to pre-service teachers. Andrew has a strong academic background. The research for his Master of Education (1995-8) was into the acquisition of German word-order rules.

Andrew’s professional interests and particular areas of expertise include:


- Professional Learning for Languages Teachers (pre-service, Graduate and experienced)

- School Drama/Musical Productions (Direction, Set Design and Producing)

- the use of Drama and ICT in the learning of Languages

- the German language (tutoring, specialising in the VCE and adults)

- Boys’ Education

- Student Exchange

- Vocational Education and Training - Applied Language.


Following his distinguished school teaching career, Andrew worked at the Goethe-Institut in Melbourne as the Educational Consultant 2005-6, managing various student and teacher activities and developing learning and advocacy materials. Andrew continues his work for the Goethe-Institut as a Professional Learning Facilitator.

 

From 2008-2011 Andrew worked in the Professional Learning Unit at the Catholic Education Office Melbourne, as a Project Leader with special responsibilities for the Australian Government Quality Teachers Program (AGQTP) and leading projects around support of Graduate teachers and the development of a system-wide Professional Learning Framework. In 2007 Andrew was Project Manager for two projects associated with the then MCEETYA National Statement and Plan for Languages Education in Australian Schools 2005-8. The first project involved developing a nationally coordinated promotion of the benefits of Languages learning in schools 'Languages Open the Door'. The Asia Education Foundation worked in partnership with the Australian Federation of Modern Language Teacher Associations to carry out this project. Andrew also managed the second National Seminar on Languages Education associated with the National Plan, held in Melbourne at the end of November 2007. Andrew has also worked as a Project Director (Languages Proficiency Testing) for the Australian Council for Educational Research (ACER). 


Andrew has been very active for over 20 years with the Association of German Teachers of Victoria, including seven years as president, and also with the Network of Australian Teachers of German since its inception in 2002.

 

Andrew has just retired as Treasurer of the Modern Language Teachers’ Association of Victoria, having been President and Immediate Past-President for 11 years, and one year respectively. Amongst many other projects supporting Languages teachers, the association has been involved in several major Languages advocacy campaigns in Victoria, including a dedicated section of their website. In his role as president of the MLTAV, Andrew was involved in many Languages advisory committees at a State level and has promoted close cooperation with the more than 20 Single Language Professional Teaching Associations which exist in Victoria.

Angela Rando is a Secondary School Teacher with over 19 years of experience working with students in Years 7 to 12. She is an experienced VET fashion trainer, delivering the Certificates II and III VET Applied Fashion and Design technology. Angela is currently the Creative Arts Co-Ordinator at her school and is always looking to improve and enhance textiles teaching.

Angela is highly motivated, self-driven and inspired by the art of teaching, learning and giving people the opportunity to excel in their development. Over the past three years some of her students have been selected for top designs where their work is exhibited at the Melbourne Museum.

Angela has also participated in various Industry placements such as assisting at Pure Baby and attending TFIA workshops. As a consultant, Angela is especially interested in classroom teaching and keeping the teachers and students engaged and motivated at all times. She aims to share her ideas, knowledge and experiences with teachers and students.

Sadriani joined Vocational Pathways in 2013 as a Senior Consultant, specializing in VET Applied Language. Sadriani was recentlry appointed Manager of Professional Learning and Special Projects for Vocational Pathways / Ripponlea Institute. Sadriani is a registered secondary school teacher who has had significant experience in implementing and delivering the Certificates in Applied Language. Sadriani has supported our client schools in facilitating the introduction of VET Applied Language programs, assisting them with curriculum development, designing effective teaching and learning strategies, and developing competency based assessments.

Sadriani is a Member of Australian Retailer’s Association, Member of Hurstbridge Trader’s Association, and a Member of Nillumbik Business Network.

Claudia Russo is an experienced Languages Secondary School Teacher who has taught in the Catholic sector for 25 years. She brings with her a wealth of knowledge about language learning and teaching. Her experience in schools has been Head of Languages for 15 years at a Catholic boy’s school in North Fitzroy and at Catholic Regional College in Melton, where she is currently teaching Italian/English and leading the Languages Department. She is also responsible for the Italian Exchange Program which is held annually at the school she currently teaches at. Claudia has a passion for engaging students in language learning and making a contribution in increasing the rate of language learners both at junior and senior levels of high school. She has worked at 3 primary schools in Preston and Reservoir for three years also, and was responsible for developing an interactive Italian curriculum for Years 3 to 6 pupils.

 

Over the years, Claudia has taught adults and immersed them in the Italian language for the purposes of travelling, studying abroad and also with the intention

of applying for new roles and promotions. Claudia also teaches at an Ethnic School on Saturdays and enjoys meeting new people and instilling a love of

language learning to primary, secondary students and adults. She is a Languages Consultant with a passion for teaching Italian in the classroom

and using ICT to motivate students to continue with their language studies.

 

Claudia has a passion in leading other teachers to enhance further their pedagogy in the language classroom and beyond. She thoroughly enjoys interacting with curriculum leaders from various schools, teachers and students alike. She aims to provide a collaborative platform whereby practical, relevant and pertinent ideas can be adopted by schools. Teachers can successfully apply the new initiatives in their lessons according to the needs of their students. Claudia is very passionate about VET in Applied Language and has this constant desire to encourage other schools to adopt this highly engaging pedagogy of teaching languages. She has had great success in implementing and teaching this nationally recognised qualification and is eager to share her positive experience with other school leaders and teachers, who may be interested in exploring another exciting way of teaching and learning languages.

Sarah Glatz is a passionate educator, linguist and teacher educator/mentor, with strong interests in intercultural communication, student motivation, vocational education, formative assessment, literacy, bilingual education, and innovative and effective use of technology. She is fluent in German and French, has studied Italian, Spanish, Japanese and Chinese, and is currently studying Yolngu Language & Culture via CDU. She has taught at primary, secondary and tertiary level in both state and private systems in Victoria and NSW, France and Japan. Sarah's professional experience extends beyond the education sector. She worked in corporate banking and ICAC in Sydney, a transatlantic law firm in Paris and a machine tool-building company in Germany. In addition, she worked as a NAATI-certified translator for 30 years.

Sarah consults to schools and education bodies within Victoria and nationally. Her focus with Ripponlea Institute is on assisting teachers in set up, delivery and assessment of the VET Certificates in Applied Languages, both in Victoria and into remote indigenous communities. Sarah has been head of languages in several schools and has taught and examined French and German for NSW HSC, Victorian VCE and the International Baccalaureate (IB) Diploma Programme. She has had extensive experience in curriculum planning, development and assessment. Sarah has mentored new teachers, and trained and worked as a teacher coach, helping individuals develop best practice approaches, and faculties plan, advocate for and implement change. She has initiated and run action research teams within the Languages and Literacy/Learning Development faculties and has completed training in Gifted education.

 

Sarah is a committee member of the FATFA and MLTAV, involved in their professional development and advocacy, and is an active member and former Secretary of the AFTV. She enjoys volunteering with young indigenous students from remote communities who attend the Melbourne Indigenous Transition School (MITS).

David Moore is Linguist at the Alice Springs Language Centre (ASLC). His idea was to teach translation in Northern Territory high schools and he now  works with the ASLC to design and deliver VET courses in Applied Languages in association with the Ripponlea Institute. He teaches courses in Arrernte and works as an interpreter and translator in the Alyawarr, Arrernte and Anmatjerr languages of Central Australia. Currently a doctoral candidate in linguistics at the University of Western Australia, his current research is about the linguistic and translation work of the Hermannsburg Mission in the description of Central Australian languages 1890-1910.


David was awarded the 2017 NAATI Champion award. In recognition of his passionate work carried out in the Northern Territory interpreting and translating Aboriginal languages.
